BIRDWATCHING

A wildlife sanctuary among mangroves, dunes, and sea

Cormorants and pelicans resting on Islote de Patos in Bahía Magdalena

Discover the most vibrant and peaceful side of Bahía Magdalena through a unique birdwatching experience. This coastal ecosystem, spanning over 187,000 hectares, is internationally recognized as a Ramsar Site for its ecological importance and is home to a remarkable diversity of birdlife that fascinates both experts and enthusiasts alike.

With more than 80 bird species visiting the area throughout the year, and 24,000 hectares of mangroves serving as habitat, refuge, and feeding grounds, Bahía Magdalena is one of the most spectacular places in Baja California Sur for observing birds in their natural environment.

The bay is also classified as an Important Bird Area (IBA) by BirdLife International, under category 4, meaning it supports a significant population of migratory and resident birds. Particularly notable is the presence of the Pacific black brant, which visits the region during its seasonal migration.
