Murillos Bros: From Fishing to Adventure — Exploring Roots, Navigating Destinations

Our story begins where the sea begins.
We are a family from Puerto San Carlos who traded fishing nets for binoculars and fishing boats for ecotourism routes. Heirs of the Pacific, we grew up among mangroves, dunes, and whales; today we share that legacy through authentic experiences that connect with nature and the community.

At Murillos Bros Adventours, each tour is more than an activity: it's a way to live like a local, to explore with respect, and to remember that everything is better when you walk with purpose... or in hiking boots.

About
Murillos Bros Adventours

The Story of Murillos Bros Adventours

The story of Murillos Bros Adventours did not begin with a company, but with a family and their deep connection to the sea.

Its roots trace back to the early 1800s, at Hacienda Don Ramón, located in the rural communities of the region, where Félix Murillo and Guadalupe Mayoral built a family dedicated to agriculture and rural life. Over generations, Antonio Murillo Mayoral and Ángela Ocaranza Roselini (ca. 1806–1880) carried that legacy across the peninsula, giving rise to a new coastal generation.

From them came Martín “Bitín” Murillo Ocaranza, alongside his wife María de Loreto “Nana Chacha” Higuera de la Toba, who brought the family’s life to the shores of Isla Margarita and Bahía Magdalena.

“Bitín” Murillo became one of the first lighthouse keepers at Cabo Tosco Lighthouse, a historic landmark that for decades guided fishermen and navigators along the Pacific coast.

Later, his son Rodolfo “El Chino” Murillo continued that legacy, also serving as a lighthouse keeper and keeping alive the family’s deep connection to the sea.

The Murillo Núñez family arrived in Puerto San Carlos in 1984, after generations dedicated to fishing in Isla Margarita and Puerto Alcatraz.

Their hard work and commitment led, in 1998, to the founding of the fishing cooperative “PROMARINOS – Productores del Mar,” created to strengthen the local economy and promote the responsible use of Bahía Magdalena’s marine resources.

Years later, a new generation began to imagine a different future. In 2017, brothers Damián and Alfredo Murillo created a Facebook page called Murillos Bros Avistamientos, where they shared photos and videos of gray whale sightings and marine life in the bay.

That small idea became the first step toward transformation. During the 2019–2020 pandemic, while the world came to a halt, the Murillo family chose to light their own beacon.

Murillos Bros Adventours was officially born in 2020—a family-run company formed by sons and grandchildren of fishermen, committed to conservation and the sustainable development of their community.

Today, Murillos Bros Adventours works alongside cooperatives, researchers, and local communities, promoting a responsible ecotourism model that connects people with nature.

Bahía Magdalena is a sanctuary where mangroves, dunes, and islands converge—home to more than 100 bird species, gray and humpback whales, dolphins, sea lions, sharks, turtles, and giant rays.

Our mission is to offer authentic travel experiences that inspire people to care for the ocean and value it with respect.

From whale watching and sardine run expeditions to ocean safaris, birdwatching, and dune camping, every adventure tells a living story of the Mexican Pacific.

Murillos Bros Adventours is not just a company— it is the evolution of a family that once lit the sea from a lighthouse, and now protects it with their own hands. 🌅🐋

Advancing conservation and marine monitoring

Murillos Bros Adventours is evolving toward a model that integrates marine monitoring and conservation as part of its ocean operations.

Through our constant presence at sea, we aim to generate relevant information on biodiversity and ecosystem dynamics, contributing to conservation efforts and informed decision-making for the sustainable management of Bahía Magdalena.
