Bird Watching
A paradise for observers in Magdalena Bay
Service Description
Magdalena Bay is much more than whales and dolphins: it's also one of the most important birdwatching destinations in the entire Mexican Pacific. With a mix of mangroves, wetlands, coastal dunes, and islets, this region is home and resting place for hundreds of resident and migratory bird species that come from as far away as Canada, Alaska, and Patagonia. Our birdwatching tour takes you through tranquil channels surrounded by mangroves and to hidden lagoons where herons, ibises, roseate spoonbills, cormorants, frigate birds, gulls, pelicans, curlews, terns, and various shorebirds congregate. During certain seasons, you can also observe birds of prey such as ospreys and peregrine falcons, as well as majestic flocks of migratory birds that fill the sky on their annual passage. The activity takes place by panga or slow boat, allowing us to approach the birds without disturbing them and ensuring safe and respectful observation. Our guides are thoroughly familiar with the key birdwatching spots and will share information about their behavior, migratory routes, habitats, and identification techniques. If you are a nature photographer or birdwatcher, this expedition will provide you with spectacular opportunities to capture unique moments. Magdalena Bay is part of the Ramsar Site and the Pacific Flyway, making it an internationally recognized ecological gem. Participating in this experience is not only a visual and sensorial delight, but also an act of connection with one of the most valuable and fragile ecosystems on the planet. Recommendations: Bring binoculars (we also provide some), a camera, neutral-colored clothing, a hat, water, and biodegradable sunscreen. The best time for birdwatching is early morning or late afternoon, when the birds are most active.
