Camp Bait Balls and SM
4 days of marine action and ocean connection in Magdalena Bay
Service Description
Enjoy a complete nature experience with our Baitball Expedition Camp, a 4-day, 3-night trip in Magdalena Bay that combines the excitement of the open ocean with the tranquility of the coastal desert. This expedition takes place during the Mexican Sardine Run (October to December), a natural phenomenon that transforms the Pacific into a scene of life, hunting, and movement. For two days, we depart by boat from the camp to the open sea in search of the impressive baitballs: dense schools of sardines hunted in tandem by dolphins, mobulas, striped marlins, sharks, sea lions, dorado, and seabirds. It is a wild, chaotic, and exciting spectacle where multiple species interact in a natural dance of life and survival. The other two days are spent on land, exploring the coastal desert of Magdalena Bay with interpretive walks among dunes, salt flats, and desert vegetation. Throughout the tour, our guides share discussions about the local flora and fauna, the history of the bay, and the traditional commercial fishing that has sustained Puerto San Carlos for generations. The camp is set up in a secluded area overlooking the sea, where you can enjoy local dishes, golden sunsets, and nights under breathtaking starry skies. The tents are ready to offer you a comfortable stay, with everything you need to experience this adventure in direct contact with nature. Season: October to December Duration: 4 days, 3 nights Minimum: 4 people Includes: Boat transportation, equipped campsite, meals, guided hikes, interpretive talks, and expert local guides. Recommendations: Bring clothing for the sea and desert (light and warm), a raincoat, a flashlight, personal items, a hat, sunglasses, binoculars, and biodegradable sunscreen.
